Intent:
At Greenfield Primary School, we aim to ensure our Geography Curriculum is a rich and stimulating part of our pupils learning. It will inspire our children’s curiosity, encouraging them to engage and develop a fascination about the world we live in. As geographers, our children will gain knowledge and understanding about the processes that shape the environment around us in our local area but also the wider world - discovering the physical and human differences of places and people from around the world. Through offering a broad and balanced curriculum, we aim to facilitate the progression of key geographical concepts, skills, knowledge and vocabulary on their journey learning about the world and in doing so; they develop a love for geography itself which remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Implementation:
At Greenfield Primary school for Geography we use PlanBee.
Within KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 we use a two-year rolling cycle. In each year children will do three Geography schemes of work comprising of 5 to 7 series of lessons.
In using PlanBee we are ensuring:
Provide complete curriculum coverage from Year 1 to Year 6 for Geography.
Focusing on:
Locational knowledge
Place knowledge
Human and physical knowledge
Geographical skills and fieldwork
Embed a consistent approach to teaching and learning across all Geography lessons.
knowledge and skills progression documents to highlight progress made in Geography across school.
Impact:
Through focusing on high quality teaching and learning we are ensuring children are developing skills, knowledge and understanding. The knowledge progression documents and evidence in children’s books demonstrate the impact of teaching and learning and ensure children fulfil their potential, have a true love of Geography and communicate confidently about what they have learnt.
