What does reading look like at Greenfield?

In EYFS and KS1 our children do Read Write Inc. Further information can be found here.
In kS1 and KS2, children take part in daily Whole Class Reading sessions which are led by the class teacher.
We promote a love of reading through appealing reading areas within classrooms and we have a beautiful new library in one of our log cabins which we restock with pupil request where possible. Through the year we have fun reading focused days but more importantly, we foster a love of reading every day.
Our reading spine has been carefully thought through and ensures that children are exposed to a wide range of text types during their time with us. Alongside the books identified for Whole Class Reading sessions, each teacher reads a class novel to their class to further develop a love of reading. In January 2025, we took our KS2 children to The Leeds Playhouse to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe theatre production which brought alive the words from from their class book from Autumn term.
